Pokali School
In this project a new school was established in the village Pokali, in the district of Okhaldhunga, south of the Mount Everest region. Namgel Sherpa is the coordinator of this project. His region gets almost no help from the government and needs more facilities for progress.
With the help of many sponsors money was raised to build a primary school with 5 classrooms and an office. The villagers built the school themselves and are very grateful that their children can follow an education program now.
Now the school is overcrowded as many older children who left school too soon, go back to finish their education. The school lacks materials to help with the teaching as posters on the wall, atlases, books etc. Also there are still children who cannot afford to go as their parents cannot pay the minimum for uniform, shoes and stationary. All these problems we hope to overcome in the future with the help of our sponsors. In the fall of 2009 we will visit the school ourselves.
